In the 1950’s a retired industrialist named Morton Clark came to Holmes Beach from Lima, Ohio. He immediately fell in love with the area. One particular spot that stood out to him was the area that we now call Spring Lake. Clark described the area as being friendly with a homey atmosphere, surrounded by white sandy beaches, exotic birds, and tropical vegetation.

Clark envisioned a community of homes surrounding the 3 ½ acre salt fed lake, stocked with salt water fish. He began buying property and teaming up with local contractors to begin the process of developing the lake. In order to do so, Clark and his team dug out the lake, which was just a marsh land at the time.

He then built his family home on one of the first developed lots. The Clark home included a plastic transparent roof, retractable walls, a sun lamp panel and a revolutionary gas fired fireplace barbecue.

After years of stalled development, the development of Pirate’s Cove Apartments, and a home located at what is now Spring Lake Park experiencing extensive flooding, the City of Holmes Beach used grant funds to purchase the lot in order to create the pocket park.

Spring Lake Park was designed as a relaxing area for the community members to enjoy. It includes walkways, picnic tables, benches, and a view of Spring Lake.
