CITY OF HOLMES BEACH
MAINTENANCE WORKER
PUBLIC WORKS 

FUNCTION:  The Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance in all areas of the city including, but not limited to painting, hauling, operating equipment and vehicles, landscape maintenance, construction and caretaking of city buildings and equipment.

 CLASSIFICATION:  The position of Maintenance Worker for Public Works is considered a non-exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

 REPORTS TO:  Maintenance Workers report to the Foreman.  The Foreman prepares day-to-day work schedules for Maintenance Workers.

DUTIES:  
Customer Service:

  • Maintains excellent public relations
  • Responds to calls for assistance in a timely manner

Scope of Work/Responsibilities:

  • Performs various tasks of labor as required by daily scheduling
  • Maintains and repairs city recreational areas
  • Assists Holmes Beach Police Marine Patrol
  • Picks up and disposes of dead animals from the roadways or beaches
  • Repairs and replaces signage and sidewalks
  • Builds benches and bike racks
  • Repairs drainage systems
  • Constructs new catch basins, sediment traps and erosion mitigation
  • Builds, cleans and maintains storm drain grates
  • Installation and maintenance of pedestrian crosswalks
  • Performs general maintenance of all public city facilities
  • Regularly inspects city rights-of-way for clear visibility
  • Inspects city signage
  • Assists Police Department with disaster preparedness and storm aftermath
  • Performs other work and projects as directed by the Public Works Foreman

 JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills:

  • Must possess a variety of skills to complete a variety of tasks required by a general maintenance position
  • Must have detailed knowledge of material and equipment with which to complete maintenance

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to manipulate and move heavy materials, equipment and supplies
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to operate a variety of industrial tools and machinery

 Educational Qualifications:

  • A combination of proven skills and knowledge and experience that lend themselves to completing maintenance tasks in a timely and correct manner
  • Possession of required licensures and certificates as required by the State of Florida
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License
